Full Doll Tutorial - Done in Photoshop 7.01

Pre - Tut

  • I have also provided you with a palette of colors, but you can use your own.

Pt. 1 - Shirt

  • Add a new layer. Take your darkest color and draw the outline. Don't forget to clean up the pixels!
  • Fill in with a lighter color.
  • Add another layer. Now take the brush tool, and with your outline color, shade accordingly. Settings: Size 1, Opacity, 100%
  • Now, with your lightest color, shade in highlights accordingly. Same settings.
  • Now, take the smudge tool and soften the folds. Settings: Size - 4; Strength - 42%.
  • Go to the first shirt layer and, with the selection tool, select the outside of the shirt. Go to the shading layer and hit "Delete".

Pt. 2 - Pants

  • Add another layer. Take the pencil tool and draw the outline of the pants. I'm doing my pants about ½ way. Clean up the lines.
  • Fill in with a lighter color.
  • Add a new layer. Take the outline color and shade your folds accordingly. Size: 1; Opacity: 100%.
  • Now do the same thing, only with your lightest color. No need to get too fancy.
  • Now, take the smudge tool again and soften the folds. Settings: Size - 4 or 5; Strength - around 42%.
  • Go to the main pants layer and select the outside. Go to the shading layer, and then hit "delete".

Pt. 3 - Shoes

  • I'm going to be doing gold pumps, with a palette of 2 colors. Add a new layer and draw the outline.
  • And, yet again, fill in the outline.
  • Take the burn or darken tool and put in shadows. Settings: Size - 3; Exposure - 20%.
  • Take the dodge tool and put in highlights. Same settings.

Pt. 4 - Hair

  • Add a new layer and draw the outline.
  • *Sigh*
  • Add a new layer and, with the brush tool AND the outline color, draw the darker strands of hair.
  • Now, add another layer, and with your lightest color, draw in the lighter strands of hair.
  • Take the lighter strand layer, and drag it underneath the darker strand layer.
  • Go to the base hair layer, and with the magic wand tool, select the inside OR outside of the hair. When doing the inside, be sure to go to "Selection -> Inverse". Hit Delete.
  • Now, take your burn or darken tool, and go over where there would most likely be shadows.
  • Do the same with your dodge or lighten tool.

Tada! Your completed doll. You should be proud. *Claps for (insert name here)*
